New London Hospital began its exciting $21 million expansion and renovation project on July 2, 2007. The first phase of the project involved expanding the parking facilities and preparing the campus for the site work. Our focus is patient and family comfort and quality care. We carefully and thoughtfully designed a project that would most efficiently and effectively utilize our financial and human resources. The expansion modernized our patient rooms, increased space for specialty services and improved patient access to providers who practice at the hospital.
The facility plan called for a 46,000 square foot addition onto the existing structure. A new main entrance was constructed and features the convenience of having all diagnostic services nearby. The addition is a two-story building that offers eight new private patient rooms with ancillary services, including a chapel. The existing patient rooms, built in 1958, will be renovated and open by August 2009. All patient rooms will be private and have family sleeping accommodations.
Specialty Services (Oncology, Coumadin Clinic and Sleep Lab) have been expanded. Providers from the former Medical Office Building have all moved into new space with specialists on the ground floor and employed providers on the second floor.
The first half of the former Medical Office Building was razed in April 2009. Pediatrics will be brought back to the hospital campus and housed in renovated space on the first floor in the rear newer section of the Medical Affiliates Building by September 2009. The second floor of the building is occupied by Barban Eye Associates and the Tina and Bill Helm Conference Room. The third floor of the building is administrative space.
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we create a new hospital to meet your healthcare needs.
